Finished stuff!

I've finished a few projects this week:

First is my Sriracha Hot Sauce Bolero, one of Stefanie's patterns. This was quick and fun. It's knit in WildeThyme's beaded handspun and some O-Wool Organic Wool Classic. I love both yarns and they went together perfectly:

Here I am adjusting the shawl pin I got in a PhatFiber box, it goes perfectly with this bolero:

Next up is my Secret Surprise Marilyn. This is a design by Wendy Bernard. I dyed this yarn with Kool-Aid and used some vintage buttons I had in my button stash:

Another pic of the sweater with a scarf I knit out of KittyGrrlz' bamboo singles. This is amazing yarn; beautiful colors and really soft. The bamboo holds it's shape much better than I thought, I think it's the way she spins it.

Another shot of the scarf on its own:

I think that's it for now! I've started a couple Project Spectrum projects, and will blog about them later.

Here's the fabric, I got this at IKEA. The front is going to be a deep teal.

Sewing

I've decided to try my hand at sewing. I used to wear a ton of vintage dresses, but as I put on some pounds in my early 30s, it's hard to find vintage dresses that fit anymore. I found a vintage pattern on Etsy a while back, and last week found a bunch of reprints at Joanns. This is the first one I'm going to try:

I'm making a muslin, which is a inexpensive cotton fabric version. I will be using it to tailor the pattern to me. This is supposed to be an easy pattern, it only uses 3 pattern pieces.

Here's one piece of the skirt pinned:

This is a big skirt! I'll try to update regularly with pics of my progress. Wish me luck!

mmmmmmalabrigo

I finished my first sweater using Malabrigo yarn. For those non-knitters, Malabrigo is like candy to us! It's super soft and is available in amazing colors.

Here's my sweater, it's an adaptation of Amy Houck O'Neill's Cropped Cardigan

Here's a close up of the buttons, I got them at Amazing Treasures, she has great vintage buttons:

They're about the color of the top button. Love them. This is a great little sweater, it's perfect for this time of year, when it's cold in the morning and to keep me warm from air conditioning inside.

Bad Example?

I always try to drive legally, though sometimes I speed and there are times when I talk on my cell phone while driving. So this morning, I was going out to buy groceries and a police car passed me. The officer was talking on a cell phone. I was doing about 40 in a 35 and this officer passed me and kept gaining on me. There were no sirens or lights, so I don't think it was an emergency. I figure he was doing 45 in a 35.

If the police can't stick to the speed limit and not talk on cell phones while driving, isn't that a bad example to the rest of us?
