Sewing

I've decided to try my hand at sewing. I used to wear a ton of vintage dresses, but as I put on some pounds in my early 30s, it's hard to find vintage dresses that fit anymore. I found a vintage pattern on Etsy a while back, and last week found a bunch of reprints at Joanns. This is the first one I'm going to try:

I'm making a muslin, which is a inexpensive cotton fabric version. I will be using it to tailor the pattern to me. This is supposed to be an easy pattern, it only uses 3 pattern pieces.

Here's one piece of the skirt pinned:

This is a big skirt! I'll try to update regularly with pics of my progress. Wish me luck!

It shouldn't be too bad. I look forward to seeing the FO.

I had a cute vintage dress I got at a thrift store, I ended up trying to press it one day and melted the top layer of whatever it was... sad.

That is so sad, Tracy. I've had multiple vintage dresses that tore because the fabric was aged and thin; it's always sad when a great dress dies...

I used to do a lot of sewing. I admire your patience, making a muslin dress first.
I was usually too impatient and went right to the fabric I wanted to use. Needless to say, that didn't always work out well.

Can't wait to see your progress!

The pattern looks fabulous! I used to make a lot of my clothes, and I'm just starting to think a bit about doing it again. I can't wait to see how you get on with this!

Best of luck, dear! I received a sewing machine for xmas and plan to start sewing lots and lots once I get a sewing station set up. I've got a couple of boxes of vintage patterns that I collected when I too was a slender lassie. If I have any luck enlarging them, I'd be glad to pass on notes and patterns when I'm done - but expect it to be awhile ;-)

So excited for you. Love your pattern choice too. Before you know it, you'll be posting a picture of yourself modeling your new vintage dress!

Our Senior Clogging Team just made these for their costumes for this year. Came out super cute and look great on stage with a fluffy petticoat underneath, too.
