Bad Example?

I always try to drive legally, though sometimes I speed and there are times when I talk on my cell phone while driving. So this morning, I was going out to buy groceries and a police car passed me. The officer was talking on a cell phone. I was doing about 40 in a 35 and this officer passed me and kept gaining on me. There were no sirens or lights, so I don't think it was an emergency. I figure he was doing 45 in a 35.

If the police can't stick to the speed limit and not talk on cell phones while driving, isn't that a bad example to the rest of us?

You should be able to report things like that!

I know that police have been fined for speeding in Victoria, haven't heard any cases of talking on the phone...yet.

while i can't speak for that specific officer i know that our guys use their cellphones as a tool. i can't count the number of times during a day i call an officer on his cell to give him information that i don't want to put out over the radio for anyone with a scanner to hear (phone numbers is one example)...and just because he didn't have his lights on doesn't mean he wasn't on his way to a call. generally lights only go on for a priority call...he could very well have three complaints holding with people waiting on him. there are days i will have an officer out on a complaint and then call him on his cell to let him know he has two other "non priority" calls such as non-injury accidents on private property or belated theft complaints holding. this doesn't excuse him, like i said i don't know the specific reason for his actions. if you have concerns you should definitely contact your local pd and ask someone to look into it :)

Thanks Apryl, I didn't realize that all information didn't go out on the radio!
