Project Spectrum 2009

Last year I joined Project Spectrum. Project Spectrum is described here, Lolly does a great job of explaining it. PS has a Ravelry group, that's mainly where I participate.

What I love about PS, is that it gets me to look at the world around me and pay attention. This years PS theme is Cardinal Directions. Many cultures associate colors with the Cardinal Directions, so that is one of the themes. But there are also seasons, elements, and materials associated with each one. Here is this years inspiration (and schedule):

NORTH (March/April)
Color: Green
Material: Stones/Gems/Rocks
Season: Winter
Element: Earth

EAST (May/June)
Color: Yellow
Material: Wood
Season: Spring
Element: Air

SOUTH (July/August)
Color: Red
Material: Metal
Season: Summer
Element: Fire

WEST (September/October)
Color: Blue
Material: Glass
Season: Autumn
Element: Water

This is not solely a knitting endeavor, but can encompass all sorts of art/crafts/daily living activities. I am very excited about this years theme. It'll be fun to see everyone's contribution and to come up with my own.

I've created sets in Flickr for each of the directions and have grouped yarn in the set it falls under, this will be my jumping off point. I'm going to add other pics and inspiration in the groups.
